Reduce Man Boobs Without Surgery

By Steve Brodie

Gynecosmastia refers to large breast tissue in men coming from the Greek 'gyne' for woman and 'mastos' for breast. Ancient Greek aside, it is commonly known as man boobs. Man boobs can result from different issues in the body but mostly from either an excess of fat, such as in obese men or from a hormonal imbalance.

There are natural hormone imbalances in times like adolescence. It is not uncommon for boys at puberty to bud small breasts and feel lumps near or under their nipples, but these usually vanish with time. Overweight boys are more susceptible but even active fit youngsters can experience breast development. No health risks are associated with this adolescent man boob growth, other than the social and psychological pain and stigmatisation that often goes with man boobs. Boys that have man boobs will often isolate themselves from their peer group and avoid social situations that involve taking off their shirt like sports of beach activities.

Other causes of man boobs can come from a hormonal reaction to different types of medications, too much alcohol (especially beer) taking methamphetamines and marijuana and even from illnesses like cancer or liver disease.

One source of man boobs has been causing somewhat of an epidemic and creates man boobs that are far more persistent and permanent, sometime leaving surgery as the only option to remove the male breasts. Anabolic steroids are the big baddies when it comes to leaving behind a nice pair of man boobs on once bulging pecks - they are leading men into epidemic proportions of gynecomastia. Man boobs from steroids develop much faster and more noticeably than man boobs from natural hormonal imbalances because steroid use has such a heavy impact on your hormone levels. They are also more difficult to get rid of, and man boobs from steroids that have been left unchecked for years may only be able to be treated by costly and risky male mamoplasty - not a good option.

Male breast development is quite a common side effect of steroid use. Generally the cause is from the steroids putting the testosterone and estrogen balance in the body all out of whack. Because steroids inhibit testosterone production naturally, when stopping a steroid cycle if a user doesn't add testosterone to the body the levels of estrogen will rise dramatically and a feminization of the body can occur - budding breast and shapely hips. Not exactly the look steroids users would be going for, but a result of steroids nonetheless.

It takes some time after stopping steroids for the body to start producing testosterone again, and often when it does and hormone levels return to a balance the breast tissue formed can remain. This is one of the biggest differences in steroid induced man boobs - they are notoriously hard to eliminate.

There is one very easy solution, and that is to stay right away from steroids, and if you think about the other associated risk like shrunken testicles, looking like a stocking stuffed with tennis balls and our lovely flabby boobs there are plenty of good reasons to do so. For those who insist on taking steroids there are drugs available to block estrogen levels in the body and they can help stop man boobs forming. These are often used by body builders, however these drugs have not been fully studied, so there may well be other side effects of these blockers which will cause another unsightly syndrome.

There are plenty of ways to try and reduce man boobs, and if you have man boobs and have never used steroids then you are just months away from having a manly toned chest once more, because male breast are totally treatable given the right natural remedies and lifestyle and diet changes. If your man boobs are steroid induced still don't rush into surgery that may not even cure the problem - it may take a bit more time but natural remedies can still cure your man boobs. - 29161
