Is your Hoodia Authentic P57 or Just a Knockoff?

By Ernesto Martinez

Hoodia gordonii, commonly referred to as hoodia, is a plant from southern Africa that is reputed to be a natural appetite suppressant. The indigenous peoples of southern Africa have used the plant to reduce their need to eat on long hunting trips. Currently, many manufacturers are producing pills that claim to be pure hoodia and that will help you lose weight by suppressing your appetite. However, many of these pills do not contain authentic hoodia, but rather a type of filler. Why is this, and how can you find pure hoodia on the market?

Genuine Hoodia gordonii is an endangered plant. Like most endangered plants, government agencies have gotten involved with all aspects of it; like how much of it to sell and harvest. This ensures the continuation of species. Because authentic hoodia is so rare and costly, it leaves the market wide open for knockoffs. In other words, some unscrupulous manufacturers use fillers rather than pure hoodia. This fake hoodia won't help you lose weight any more than a sugar pill.

Supplements are not well regulated by the FDA, so a supplement that claims it has Hoodia does not have to have genuine Hoodia Gordonii. The reason you want authentic Hoodia Gordonii is because of the chemical known as P57. P57 is what actually suppresses your appetite. so before you buy any Hoodia supplement, do your research.

The Better Business Bureau will list all complaints against companies alleged to be selling fake hoodia. Start your search there, and ask the company questions about where they get their hoodia and if it is indeed hoodia gordonii. There are other types of hoodia that have not been shown to have any effect on appetite, so make sure that the product is labeled "pure hoodia gordonii" and not just "pure hoodia".

Don't give up, with enough diligence you can find genuine hoodia gordonii pills. Although they will cost more, they will work better than any filler pill. If you feel hoodia gordonii might be a good supplement to add to your diet, then make sure you spend the extra money and do the research to get only pure hoodia gordonii. - 29161
