Losing Weight Without Diets

By Tammy Henderson

A diet is simply a temporary reduction in calories, so diets only produce temporary results. It is physiologically impossible to stay on a diet, meaning a severe reduction in calories, your entire life. That isn't even a healthy option. If you want to lose weight without dieting, and you want to keep the weight off, you have to consider other options.

Successful weight loss begins with a change in attitude toward nutrition and exercise. Instead of focusing on temporary diets, begin to think about lifestyle changes to lose weight. People go on and off of diets all the time. This is a bad habit and rarely results in lasting weight loss. A much less stressful and more successful way to lose weight is to focus on new exercise and nutritional habits. You will then find a path to weight loss that last a lifetime, not just a few weeks.

Another important factor to weight loss is to maintain your muscle mass. Muscle mass is often underestimated in its importance in weight loss. Crash diets lead to fat loss, but muscle loss, as well. Muscle is important because it burns a lot of calories. Rapid weight loss includes muscle loss. This makes it even more difficult to lose weight and burn fat. The more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn with each workout.

A very severe calorie reduction to lose weight is very counterproductive. Reducing calories too much and too fast will slow your metabolism into starvation mode. This will cause your body to hold on to fat, for fear of starvation. An additional problem with starvation diets is that muscle mass is used to fuel the body, making fat loss even more difficult. Muscle is very important. It is better to reduce calories a little bit and increase calorie consumption by increasing physical activity.

Remember, the way that you were going to lose weight is to make sure that you consume less calories than you expend. Make sure you eat, but make sure you also need small low-fat meals. If he can keep this up, you will see gradual weight loss and it will be healthy weight loss. - 29161
