3 Reasons You Should Never Drink Calories

By Marie Fattizzi

Let's put this real simple right from the start: you cannot reach your goal weight and have a healthy body if you routinely drink calories that your body needs for nourishment. If you are ready to lose the weight once and for all, this is a very important issue that you cannot afford to ignore.

There are lots of things besides plain water that you can drink while losing weight, but most of them will not contain a lot of calories.

Calorie Deficit: The simplest reason you will ever hear to give up the sugary or calorie-rich drinks is that it interferes with your ability to create a calorie deficit, which is required for weight loss. A deficit simply refers to consuming fewer calories than you burn off.

So, if that is your ultimate goal, what sense does it make to drink extra calories? You may reason that they are not "real" calories because it's just a drink, but your body cannot discern a liquid calorie from a food calorie. To your system and the weight loss process, a calorie is a calorie.

Satiety: Feeling satisfied is another reason to stop drinking your calories. One of the main reasons people give up on a new diet is that they simply feel too deprived. If you are not getting enough food or are not eating at regular intervals throughout the day, then chances are you will not stick with this new way of eating long term.

Think about this rationally. You have to create a caloric deficit in order to lose weight, so the more calories you drink the less you will be able to consume while still losing weight. So, the more calories you drink the less you will be able to eat. This leads up to an increased risk of falling off track as well.

The only way to avoid self-destructing in this manner is to give up the calorie-rich foods and start drinking water instead.

Cravings: What most people do not realize about drinks that contain a lot of calories is that those calories come from sugar and other artificial ingredients that actually create more thirst. Rather than quenching thirst and filling the need of the body to be hydrated, these drinks make you want more and more. That ultimately means more and more calories.

When you drink this type of drink, you are getting excess calories and absolutely nothing else. There are no nutrients that will nourish your body or aid in vital bodily functions. They do not even hydrate you or give your body needed moisture to survive. There simply is no use for them.

In the end, you are limiting your potential for weight loss success if you drink calories that could otherwise be saved for healthy, nourishing meals. If you are serious about taking off the excess weight and want to give your body everything it needs to get healthy, you have to give up the sugary, calorie-filled drinks and pick up more water. Think hydration and a full stomach, not momentary satisfaction on the tongue. - 29161
