When it comes to choosing diets that work, there are plenty of diets out there in market. However, before you chose that diets that work fast in losing weight. You should take care of the following criteria:

a) Fat should be lost not muscle weight: There are diets, which will give you results, in terms of rapid weight loss. But, on a close analysis of the results, you will find that most of the time, you will be losing muscle weight, rather than fat tissues which make up your extra pounds. The goal of any diet, should be to make to you lose the fat mass rather than muscle weight, as muscles are required for smooth functioning of the body.

b) Long Term Results: Many diets will give you initially quick results. However, most of the times it is the water weight, you have lost in the initial weeks.

c) Lost Weight should not be regained: It is very common to know that, once you lose weight under a specific diet most of the weight lost comes back. The Primary reason is that when you follow a diet, you need to eat certain type of food. Therefore, when you come off that diet, your old habits return and in the process, you gain back the lost weight. Second Reason, being which most of the times is overlooked that, when you follow a certain diet, the body gets used to the food, and after response to it, is not so effective as it was earlier.

Therefore, in Nutshell, any good diet should teach the individual to imbibe the good eating habits in diet, so that he or she can maintain his or her weight.

d) Weight Loss in a Healthy Fashion: It not so uncommon to know that person who has lost rapidly, is also suffering from some side effects. Therefore, before joining any diet program, you should analyse it's dangers as well. It is also recommended that, where there is a drastic change required in your eating patterns, it should be carried out under the supervision of a doctor.

e) Weight Loss without starvation. It is common belief, that to lose weight you have to eat less. What people have to understand is that it is quality eating, that they have to focus on rather than the quantum of it.
