Weight Management Rules?

By Linda Scott

Many times people are on the lookout for some quick weight loss when what they need is weight management. What does weight management really mean? You have got to begin with a few other definitions first. Do you understand what your ideal body weight really means and how to find it?

Your perfect body weight has been determined by actuaries ( number crunchers who investigate thousands of data inputs to get to the right answer for a variety of study topics ) employing a formula based primarily on your age, height, sex and frame size.

Your ideal weight is basically a range and as there are only three frame sizes you'll end up virtually between 2 of the frame sizes and might finish up with 2 different ideal weights.

Once you have your perfect weight target you want to compare your exact weight to the target and see how much you have to lose if any. A safe weight management program would have you lose only two pounds a week and will change your caloric intake when you reach the target weight to maintain that target for the future.

Any weight management program will also include some form of exercise that should be developed by a fitness expert who also has a good knowledge of nutrition. Before beginning any sort of exercising programme you must consult your doctor first to determine any probable health problems before going to your local fitness center or YMCA to talk to a physical tutor to get assessed and have an exercising programme set up to help reach your target weight.

Some of your fitness assessment may involve a timed run on a treadmill and many weight measurements on some weight machines and a brief health history that may ask you about any joint or arthritis issues to figure out whether you need to avoid high impact exercise or not.

With so many fitness centers having a variety of machines no matter what the condition of your knees are you will find a machine that can help you achieve the fitness level and exercise you want to add to your weight management program.

Having a planned diet on a weekly basis so you can count your calories and fat intake along with a set exercising plan that may tell you how many calories you are burning with each extra exercise will give you daily feedback in your war against weight gain. - 29161
