Are These 3 Weight Loss Beliefs Putting Your Life In Danger?

By Jeanene Fisher

Can you count all the weight loss tips you know? How many of them actually work? Where did you find these tips? You have probably read about lots of interesting tips in the health and fitness magazines, in your online searches, and even your friends have told you great ways to lose weight, especially fat.

We all know the truth. Calories in should be less than calories out. We also know that fad diets, weight loss pills and supplements, and even that one more piece of exercise equipment really do not work. Yes, we can hold out hope that some day one of those really will work. But for now, let's agree on the above. No need to lecture on what we already know.

The problem is that the weight loss industry is filled with myths and misleading information. Why is this? Maybe it's because they want you to buy their products. People also misinterpret information and so truths may get twisted. Here are three common myths and the truth about each one.

Myth #1: It is possible to accomplish spot reduction of fat. FALSE! It is impossible to force your body to spot reduce, no matter what workouts you are doing. Doing crunches and leg lifts to reduce belly fat frequently reduces the muscle mass rather than the fat beneath the abdomen. So instead of focusing on working on one area of your body, it is best to work your entire body while you follow a healthy diet. This will certainly speed up your metabolism and that is what burns fat.

Myth #2: You can reduce body fat by drastically reducing your calorie intake. NOT true. Crash dieters believe this myth. Haven't we all tried that - hoping to lose a little weight or fat before a big event? But when you starve your body, it reacts by going into starvation mode. When in this mode, you metabolism slows and you end up burning muscle to generate energy rather than fat. So muscle is lost and weight is regained after your crash.

Myth #3: You can lose weight and fat just by doing cardio exercises. Also NOT true. While aerobic and cardio exercises are really great, what you need to add to your routine is weight lifting. Actually, lifting weights is better than the cardio and aerobic exercise because your body will continue to burn fat long after the workout is finished. That makes you a fat burning machine!

So those three myths have been debunked. Now it is up to you to proceed on the right path. That would be healthy eating and weight lifting workouts. That combination will cause your body to lose weight by burning the fat. - 29161
